Nothing ranks better than text-based content, but it’s not just about pleasing search engines. In the end, you want to please your readers because they are the ones that are going to spend money on products and services.

When you hear, a picture is worth a thousand words, it’s true! That’s why it’s important to incorporate pictures with your text-based content. However, not every picture is free to use! Some require payment as permission and if you choose to take that route, it can easily cost you thousands of dollars.

I don’t know about you, but I prefer free pictures! The problem with free pictures is that it’s very difficult to find relevant ones. That’s why most of my pictures are modified using Canva.com. In this article, I will reveal to you, a few sources that I use to get my pictures for free.

#1. Flickr

Flickr is a great directory for pictures, but keep in mind that not all of their pictures can be used. It is very important that you filter only for the pictures that allow for commercial use.

Tip: It’s also a great place to upload your own album if you wished to display it on your blog using the Flickr Justified Gallery plugin.

#2. Unsplash

Unsplash is one of my top go-to places for pictures because of the quality (high resolution). You can find almost anything you need plus it’s free to use, so what more can you ask for right?

#3. Free Images

FreeImages is a very self-explanatory domain name. Judging by the name, you’ll know exactly what to expect! With over 300,000 free stock photos, you should be able to find almost anything you need to make your blog stand out to your readers. Keep in mind though, they do offer related images from iStock which costs money to use.

#4. Dreamstime

Dreamstime is another directory for videos and pictures. Similar to other sources, Dreamstime offers both paid and free pictures. However, you do need to sign up for a free account if you want to filter for free pictures to save money.

#5. Picjumbo

Picjumbo carries a large selection of free images for both commercial and personal use. The images are organized into categories, so it’s very easy to find pictures relevant to your niche. Or, you can use the search box to find specific keywords.

#6. Morguefile

Morguefile is a free photo archive that allows you to search for free pictures. It also integrates with iStock, Getty, Dreamstime, Shutterstock, Adobe Stock, and Bigstock. I really like how it integrates with these other directories because it allows you to save time from going from website to website.

#7. Pexels

Pexels is one of the top directories for free pictures that you can use for both commercial or personal work. This makes it a great place to find high-quality pictures to use for your websites, blogs, apps, etc.

#8. Pixabay

Pixabay carries over 1.5 million royalty free stock pictures and videos. Most images are free to use, but they do provide you with relevant pictures that cost money from other sources as well. Double check before you use any of the pictures!

#9. Take Your Own Photos

Nothing beats taking your own photos. By taking your own photos, you can add more uniqueness to your blog and provide your readers with a more personal taste.

When I went to New York City, I took all of the photos on my phone instead of finding images online. This gives my readers a quick glimpse into my vacation.

With modern smartphones, you can take high-quality pictures without the need to carry extra heavy equipment or invest money into better cameras.

#10. Bonus* Wealthy Affiliate Photos

If you host your website on Wealthy Affiliate as a premium member. You will have access to over 1,000,000 pictures for free. The good thing about his service is that you will only find free pictures. That means you don’t have to worry about filtering out to avoid getting hit with copyright. Also, you can add the images to your blog posts right away!
